One of our patients, Mr Albert, shared with us his experience of upgrading to the new ReSound LiNX Quattro hearing aids...
About a year ago my hearing aids of several years started to fail and after a discussion with Karen, I decided that I would invest in a new set. For me my hearing aids are very important for everyday living, but there is one aspect of my life where they are crucial - my enjoyment of music. Karen came up with a few suggestions which I took away and I also did some research on the Internet.
With my previous hearing aids I would listen to music through headphones but when my wife was listening to the radio the aids gave priority to speech which meant increased feedback and a lower quality of the quieter sounds. I should explain that I enjoy classical music which can be both very quiet and thunderingly loud.
In further consultations with Karen she thought that the Resound LiNX Quattro devices would meet my requirements. Indeed my Internet research had revealed that they have a strong reputation for improving listening to music.
When I had a look at the Resound LiNX Quattro model I was intrigued by what I read. A bit of history: my previous hearing aids had an optional extra device that you hang around your neck and link to your mobile phone and, via a further device, could be linked into a television or radio. Unlike this optional extra accessory, the Resound LiNX Quattro uses Bluetooth to connect directly between the hearing aids so that, for example, if you adjust the volume of one the other one gets the message and adjusts the same amount. Most mobile phones have Bluetooth built in and these Resound devices can be linked to an app on your phone.
I took the plunge and Karen ordered the devices for me which were fitted last autumn. I have my music library on the phone and can stream it directly to my hearing aids. No problem with my wife’s radio being picked up. But there were other advantages. I can use my phone to change settings on the Quattro aids, particularly useful when I am in a noisy environment such as a cafe. There is a further bonus: when I am on the phone the conversation is streamed directly to my ears so I can hear every word that is being said.
It has been a revelation to discover what you can do with your hearing aids. Karen has been very patient with me and has given me support along the way as the HCC team have been doing over the years I have used them.
